Throughout my time purchasing and trying new shaving products I have often heard about Merkur safety razors. More specifically, the Merkur 34c safety razor tends to get a lot of attention. In one online discussion, I was told that the quality of Merkurs is almost unrivaled and that I had to try one. This being said, I added the Merkur 34c to my shopping cart!
When I first received my 34c I was a bit underwhelmed by the packaging. The box that the razor came in was very basic and the razor itself looked pretty ordinary. “What makes the Merkur 34c so awesome?” I asked myself.
Shaving with the Merkur 34c was a better experience than I expected. The razor itself is made of extremely high-quality materials. The shave it provided was unmatched by any other safety razors I have tried in the past. Having sensitive skin, it was shocking that I had zero irritation using the 34c. The short handle and lightweight allow you to be very precise, while the design of the head seems to prevent razor burn. Replacing blades is also very easy with the 34c.
The Merkur 34c lives up to all the hype and provides unmatched quality at an affordable price. Shaving with the Merkur 34c safety razor was effortless and it felt great in the hand. Changing blades is easily done by twisting a knob on the bottom of the handle and removing the head cap. I highly recommend the 34c safety razor to anyone interested in safety razors regardless of skill level.
Unboxing The Merkur 34c
As previously mentioned, the packaging of the 34c was a bit underwhelming and not as flashy as some others I have purchased and reviewed.
Inside the box, you find an inner insert that holds the 34c safety razor as well as a single sample blade.
The Merkur 34c features a 2-piece design and a knob on the bottom of the handle. Twisting the knob on the bottom of the handle allows you to remove the head cap and replace the blade.
The head of the 34c features slits on the plate directly under where the edge of the blade sits. These slits make it extremely easy to rinse your blade while shaving. I spoke of a similar design in another review: MANSCAPED Review – The Plow 2.0
Shaving with The Merkur 34c Safety Razor
Shaving with the Merkur 34c razor blew me away as it exceeded my expectations. The short handle of the 34c makes it very easy to be precise in areas like just under your nose and near your ears. The design of the head makes it a breeze to rinse your blade between passes, which we all know is very important. Changing blades is also very easy due to the 2-piece design of the 34c.
The shave I got with the Merkur 34c was among the best shaves I’ve ever had. I had zero irritation, which is a rare occurrence with my skin type. I did have to do two passes to get completely smooth, but that is usually the case anyways.
As with all of my reviews, my setup remains the same. I use a pre-shave oil, cream lathered with my brush and bowl, and follow it up with my favorite aftershave made by Proraso.

The Merkur 34c safety razor stands as possibly one of the best shaves I’ve ever gotten. I am very happy I took the time to listen to what others recommended in the discussion I had online.
