[Review] Are Dollar Shave Club Razors Worth it?

Recently, my fiancé decided that she would purchase a Dollar Shave Club kit for me as a gift. I usually prefer a safety razor or foil shaver as they are eco-friendly and generally give a better shave. However, I decided to give Dollar Shave club a try and keep an open mind. In this review, I will go over the packaging as well as my honest review of the Dollar Shave Club 6-bladed razor shaving kit.

If you’d like to get straight to the point:

The quality of the Dollar Shave Club razor, cartridges, and shaving cream was surprisingly good. The handle is solid and has an excellent grip. The cartridges easily lock onto and off of the head, making blade changing effortless. Although I don’t believe more blades mean a better shave, the 6 blades did perform very well against my thick facial hair. The only dislike I had was how flat the blade cartridge is, causing water to literally reflect back at me as I tried to rinse it. The blades are also closer together than other razors of this type, which made rinsing take longer.

Unboxing The Dollar Shave Club Kit

dollar shave club open box

When first opening the box, you are welcomed with a pretty hilarious quote stating “From your hair, to your skin, to your butt, to your face, to your… WE GOT YOU”. I got a pretty good chuckle out of reading that personally. The contents are all packaged neatly with a piece of cushiony paper.

Inside of the kit, I found a bottle of shaving cream, Dollar Shave Club handle, four 6-bladed razor cartridges, and an information card.

Attaching blade cartridges to the handle was pretty simple, push and click much like other razors of this type. The cartridges come in 4 or 6-blades and feature a precision blade at the top to get hard-to-reach places like just under the nose.

The Dollar Shave Club handle has multiple grips and fits in the hand very well.

Shaving with The Dollar Shave Club Razor

The first thing I noticed when getting ready to shave with the kit was the quality of the shaving cream. Dollar Shave Club shaving cream is a thick cream that is ready to apply right to the face. The cream perked up my facial hair and skin as it contains strong menthol and other ingredients.

Shaving with the razor was simple and easy and the Dollar Shave Club handle felt very nice in the hand. The 6-bladed razor removed a fair amount of hair with each pass with little to no irritation. I found that rinsing the blade took a bit longer than other blades, probably because of the tighter spacing and that it’s almost completely flat. I did get irritated and begin to bleed on my neck, but that’s to be expected as I have very sensitive skin.

What’s to Like About Dollar Shave Club

  • Ergonomic handle with excellent grip
  • Very comfortable shave
  • High-quality shaving cream
  • Inexpensive

What Could Be Disliked About DSC Razors

  • Rinsing the blade took more effort
  • Not eco-friendly
  • Caused mild irritation (expected with my skin type)

Are Dollar Shave Club Razors Worth it?

Overall, I would say Dollar Shave Club razors are worth it if you primarily use disposables. The Dollar Shave Club handle is ergonomic and made of high-quality materials. The blades themselves are also high quality and provide a very good shave, although they take more effort to rinse between passes. My favorite part of the Dollar Shave Club kit was the shaving cream, which contained menthol and perked up my facial hair and skin. Coming from using mainly a traditional safety razor to shave, I can truly say I was pleased and impressed with the quality of shave I got when using Dollar Shave Club.
