Edwin Jagger has been a big name is the luxury shaving world since 1988. The company is family-run out of Sheffield, England. Being one of the best-known DE safety razors in the UK, I had to get my hands on one. I was recommended the awesome Edwin Jagger DE89 through a conversation I had with another shaving enthusiast online.
Cutting to the chase, the Edwin Jagger DE89 recently dethroned my MANSCAPED Plow 2.0 as being my favorite shave. After using the DE89 for the first time, I quickly replaced my other razor. Edwin Jagger made the DE89 unique as it has anything anyone would want from a great wet shave. The razor boasts large rinsing ports that sit below the blade, which makes rinsing simple and quick. Also, the head is designed to be subtler with a scalloped plate but gave me a super smooth shave regardless. Lastly, the DE89 is clearly crafted out of love as it has a very attractive finish and Edwin Jagger is debossed on the base and top of the handle.

Unboxing the Edwin Jagger DE89
I’m big on first impressions and I enjoyed the packaging of the Edwin Jagger safety razor. The box has a clean look and boasts the company logo on the front.
The box I received contained a pamphlet of all the different great products offered by Edwin Jagger, along with the 3-piece Edwin Jagger DE89 and a single Feather DE replacement blade.
The head of the DE89 has a very shiny finish. The plate is scalloped and the cap is a bit more curved than others I’ve tried.
The handle is made of shiny black plastic that is of solid construction. At the base and top of the plastic handle are bands imprinted with the name Edwin Jagger. You can notice the size of the rinsing holes on the bottom of the plate well from this angle.
As mentioned before, the Edwin Jagger DE89 is a 3-piece safety razor. Everything on this DE razor is extremely polished and of high quality. Definitely no complaints on looks.

Shaving with the Edwin Jagger Safety Razor
While all DE safety razors are relatively the same in function, there are some quality ones that just stand above the rest. The Edwin Jagger DE89 was no exception to this as it was subtle enough to not irritate, yet aggressive enough to get me a super close shave. Very rarely do you find a DE safety razor that excels at both of these factors. I also very much enjoyed knowing the history of the tool I was shaving with and that it is completely handcrafted.
The only drawbacks of the DE89 were based on my personal preferences. The DE89 is shorter than I usually prefer and after ordering mine I realized they offered a longer version of the razor. Also, when shaving the smooth plastic on the handle can become a bit slippery if held in a wet hand, especially if there is any product on your hand as well.
Final Thoughts
The Edwin Jagger DE89 has truly become one of my favorite razors. I have swapped it out as my new daily shaver. I felt a sense of pride in knowing that a small family-run business in England developed, crafted, and exported this razor that is now being used to shave my face.
The overall quality of the DE89 was unmatched, along with the affordability in price. The aggressiveness of the shave was perfect for my sensitive skin. I got a clean shave with zero irritation, which is pretty rare honestly.
In closing, I highly recommend the Edwin Jagger DE89 to anyone who is interested in wet shaving with a safety razor, regardless of skill level.
